When hip-hop/rap first started it was a form of musical expression that was both entertaining and got you to think. It was a diverse genre that held many possibilities to the new and upcoming artists. You can use your music to educate, social awareness, or political expression. It's sad because now hip-hop/rap music is just a lot fucked up words over a beat.
So many artist killing creativity and narrow there range of what is possible because they want to fit into the mainstream standards. For you to survive you have to give up your originality and become commercial. The sad part of this is that you don't have to forget where you come from and be fake and kill the next mans dream. Stay in your lane, put a hand out to the next potential great artist and pull them into the lime light.
But thank God for the small group of up and upcoming artist they have not lost their way they continue to build themselves and bring other artist in on there success.
